5. Final research project, “Gendered Images/Identities and Languages in the Media” (20%)
For your final projects you will come up with a research project investigating the gendered images in the media and analyzing the language use to demonstrate how language participates in the construction of gendered images/identities. You will find examples (re)constructing dominant gender representations or challenging gender stereotypes in popular media, such as advertisements on TV or in a magazine, short clips of films etc.
1. During the first weeks of the course, you should be thinking about the kinds of topics and linguistic phenomena for your project and submit a project proposal (1 page) on July 26 (5 points).
2. You will do your research finding examples of the (re)construction of gender in popular media, such as advertisements on TV or in a magazine, short clips of films etc.
3. You will write your paper based on your research. The instructor will review your first draft.
4. The final paper (10 points); 6-7 double-spaced pages excluding images, references and appendices) is due in D2L Dropbox. The final paper papers must utilize references from our class readings; references should be cited in-text and in a bibliography.
